In the world of supplements it is hard to determine what to take and what not to take. It says it’s good for you, but you can’t always tell if you really are reaping any benefits. You don’t always feel or see a difference. Well that was not the case for me when it came to activated charcoal. I discovered that activated charcoal works like magic when taken to prevent a hangover!
I first bought activated charcoal after reading about the detoxifying benefits. It has been proven to help fight aging, lower cholesterol, relieve gas and bloating, cleanse the digestive tract, and filter water. Activated charcoal can also be used as a detoxifying face mask, mixed with honey to fade dark spots, or put on bug bites and stings to draw out the poison. The list goes on and on. I was interested!
I kept reading and researching. Activated charcoal is a binding agent that binds to things. Including alcohol. Ahem, activated charcoal binds to alcohol to prevent absorption. Therefore, it makes sense that activated charcoal would prevent a hangover. So I put it to the test.
Activated Charcoal Passes the Wine Test
Last night was an example. After one glass too many of my favorite red I was feeling a little woozy and I was afraid of not feeling so great the morning. Why did I have that last glass?! Well, activated charcoal to the rescue!
As I crawled into bed I begged my husband to find the bottle tucked away in the cupboard. I popped 4 of those magic black pills and voila, I woke up feeling great! I felt like I had had one glass of wine instead of… well, more than one. *wink, wink
The bottle of activated charcoal recommends 1-2 capsules up to 3 times a day. So I don’t recommend veering from the directions! And as always, check with your health care provider before introducing new supplements.
For me, through trial and error, 4 capsules of activated charcoal is my magic number to prevent a hangover.
I have done this several times. Wow, it sounds like I drink a lot! I do love wine, but for the record, I try to not over do it! I swear. But when I’m cooking and sipping wine and then have a glass with dinner, sometimes I realize I may have had that one too many. It’s nice to know I can count on activated charcoal.
Caution for Activated Charcoal Use
A very important note about activated charcoal is that you DO NOT want to take it at the same time or around the time you take medication. It will bind to the medication and prevent the medications absorption. Your body will pass it right through. Hence, this can be very dangerous when taking meds you depend on.
I Love Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal has so many uses and benefits, but I have to say using it to prevent a hangover tops my list for amazing, noticeable, and appreciated perks!
I use Natures Way Activated Charcoal if you want to try it for yourself. This is the only kind of activated charcoal I use, and can personally vouch for. It really does work wonders and I’m so glad to have stumbled upon it!
I’m sure there are many other great activated charcoal products and uses out there. If you have found your favorites, and want to share, i would love to hear all about it in the comments below!
Good luck and happy hangover prevention!!
