If you are trying to plan an unforgettable honeymoon I am here to help! My husband and I had an incredible time in Italy, and Florence was a perfect part of our honeymoon adventure. We spent 3 nights in this beautiful place and I can’t rave enough about it. I would love to share why you should honeymoon in Florence!
Florence is SO Romantic
Florence is an incredibly romantic city. There is stunning beauty at every turn. The city is flourished with romantic locals that will leave you basking in your newly married love and the seemingly never-ending beautiful sights. You can walk hand-in-hand along the Arno river, sip wine and watch the city lights, stroll through Boboli Gardens looking in awe at the sculptures and manicured landscapes.
With Florence’s many museums, hilltops, and gardens you could not run out of ways share a romantic moment. The city is filled with sights, sounds, and sensations to explore. Florence radiates a feeling of intensity and passion. This passionate city will draw you in like a magnet. And, oh, what a lovely thing to be pulled too! It’s so wonderful to be there with the one you love!
For a truly magical experience, take a bottle of wine and watch the sun set over the Ponte Vecchio from the Ponte Santa Trinita. Make sure to get there in time to get a prime spot. Romance will abound on your honeymoon in Florence!
Walking along the Ponte Vecchio and admiring the Arno river is also a wonderfully romantic way to spend a Tuscan evening. Head out hand-in-hand to admire the twinkling lights and don’t forget to bring a padlock! Legend has it that if you attach a lock to the railing of the bridge and throw the key into the Arno river, your love will last for all of eternity. What a romantic symbol of everlasting love!
The Stunning Views of Florence
Florence is known for its beautiful cityscapes and views. The Piazzale Michelangelo is quite possibly Florence’s most famous location for tourists and locals alike to take in the spectacular panoramic view. The Piazzale Michelangelo is a square that sits on a hill top of the Arno river. At the square you will also see a replica of Michelangelo’s David, which is fun for photos. You will also find some vendors as well. Get there to watch the sunrise or the sunset.
Campanile di Giotto, or Giotto’s Bell Tower is another must for taking in the spectacular view. The beautiful Bell Tower, which is part of the Duomo, is worth the 414 stair climb. You will see breathtaking 360 degree views of Florence with the Duomo right there. The view is truly striking.
Architecture and Art
The thing about Florence is the architecture is art! Walking through the streets feels like taking in the sights of a museum. After all, Florence is the birthplace of the renaissance. It’s rich in history, which can be seen in its historic buildings, Cathedrals, Museums, Duomo, statues in the Piazza della Signoria, and literally anywhere your eyes can roam. There is not a better time than your honeymoon to enjoy the vast art and beauty Florence has to offer.
Food and Wine
Italy is famous for its culinary delights. That is no secret. But my-oh-my, does Florence ever live up to the reputation! From the Tuscan wine, Steak Florentine, and sandwiches, there are almost too many delicious options to enjoy. Oh and the gelato. Let me just say, there is one amazing gelato shop after the other. There is every flavor, topping, specialty dipped cone, and flourish you could think of. How sweet it is (wink, wink!) to walk through the streets enjoying the sights with the heavenly treat on your Florence honeymoon!
Enjoy the Slower Pace of Florence
Florence has a very specific ambiance. It lends to a feeling of slowing down to take everything in. Unlike the busy and fast paced hustle of Rome (albeit AWESOME), Florence runs on a slower speed. At least it feels that way. Even though there is still so much to do and see, the atmosphere seems more relaxed. If you are on a European Honeymoon, city hopping every few days, this is a welcomed pace.
Part of the relaxed vibe may also be in part due to the sightseeing that includes many famous museums and gardens. Time naturally tends to slow down when you are strolling through lovely gardens or gazing at a historical piece of art. You just have to take a breath and take it all in.
It’s hard to describe the magic of Florence. The city exudes a vibration of history, art, and romance that you can feel in the way of a song. Everything you look at feels the way beautiful music sounds. That’s the best way I can describe it!
The experience you will have visiting this ethereal place, and to have it during such a special and pivotal time in your life, will be an unforgettable experience like no other.
